Project Overview

At Makola Farms, we believe agriculture is a powerful tool to address youth unemployment and drive economic development. That’s why we run a dynamic Youth Training & Mentorship Program targeting school leavers, church youth groups, and unemployed young adults from rural areas.

Our mentorship program focuses on both theoretical and practical learning. Participants are introduced to animal farming fundamentals including:

  • Livestock housing and hygiene

  • Feeding and budgeting

  • Vaccination and disease control

  • Record keeping

  • Marketing and customer service

Training is conducted through organized farm visits, weekend workshops, and outreach sessions at schools and churches. Every participant receives a mentorship guidebook and access to Makola’s WhatsApp support group.

Outstanding trainees receive starter kits including chicks or piglets, basic feed, and continued support. In 2023, we partnered with local leaders in T/A Khongoni and GVH Sakali to identify passionate young people for training. As a result, over 30 youth have launched their own backyard poultry and pig projects, many of whom now supply their own local communities.

We aim to build confident, self-sufficient youth farmers who can contribute meaningfully to Malawi’s agriculture sector while creating jobs and generating income for their families.
